Is Business Ownership Possible in 2025?

Communities of Business Owners are out there to help!

Maybe it’s just because I’m a millennial and this seems to be a stereotype of millennial men, but my generation has been getting into the term “Generational wealth”. Millennials and Gen-X are well into the workforce and in building their families. The question surrounding them is how do they build wealth that lasts throughout generations?

As we grew up, we’ve seen new businesses sprout up and take over the mainstream space - tech companies like Google, Apple, and Samsung and the countless social media networks that came up on the platforms built on the internet. We’ve seen influencers rise up and make an entire career off of their passions. Our response? Well, according to a survey from Lending Tree, more than 40% of Americans have side hustles. This is a result of multiple factors. 43% of those are do so to cover living expenses. Inflation and cost of living forces many to seek alternative ways to supplement their income. The beauty though is that right now may be the best time in history to start a business - meaning that it’s never been so easy or so achievable to start a business and make a living differently than generations prior.

On a Personal Note

For the first time as a married couple, my wife and I got to photograph a wedding this weekend. When working on a side business, it normally comes at the cost of your free time or family time because you have to work the business outside of your normal day job hours. That’s what makes this such a blessing. It’s awesome to not just have her support of me pursuing the business, but also have her there actually participating in it!

If you’re pursuing your own side business while being in a relationship with someone, try to find ways to do things together. It really helps the pursuit being so unified with each other.

Business Knowledge at Our Fingertips

The most advantageous thing about building a business nowadays is that there are so many resources available to us. I’ve shared Alex Hormozi before and it’s in no small part because of the incredible resource he is when it comes to business building and sales techniques. He built out an entire course for generating the best offers for your customers/clients and an entire course for generating leads for your business. Both of which are available for free on his website - you don’t even have to buy the book!

I’ve been watching so much on building a business recently as I’ve set my mind on forming the roadmap for my own efforts. I would outline to you “key takeaways” but there’s so many on a small scale and it’s so hard for me to summarize on a large scale. Here’s what I’ll do: I’ll share some of the people I’ve been learning from and things to note in this space.

  • Alex Hormozi for Business Scaling and Sales

  • Gary Vaynerchuk for his DailyVee episodes seeing how he is working on all of his endeavors.

  • Codie Sanchez shares insights for beginning small businesses and purchasing ‘main street’ businesses.

  • Dave Ramsey has released a book called “Build a Business You Love” where he outlines the things he’s learned over the years.

  • Caleb Ralston has just begun posting his own content after being on the production teams for GaryVee and Alex and Leila Hormozi. He has released a 6+ hour video on Youtube fully outlining Building a Brand.

There are more content creators in this space but these are the ones I have been learning from - at least recently. I hope this list gives you an insight on places to look for if you’re interested in any of this as well.

Reading List

Start With Why by Simon Sinek

I finished this book, finally! My biggest takeaway from this book was the main thesis and the practical examples shared. The most important thing a leader of an organization can do is to be the champion of WHY the company exists. Not to mention, the importance of finding your personal WHY. The personal WHY drives what you do, no matter the job, the position - who are you and WHY do you do what you do? Simon Sinek named several examples of the incredible power of companies driven by their WHY and the heart for their employees. This book has helped me form some of the pillars that I stand for and therein helped me get closer to articulating my WHY.

Dare to Lead by Brene Brown

I just picked up this book and read through the introduction. Brene is the leading researcher on the topic of “shame” and this book should reveal insights on a psychological level for leadership as she has studied leaders at various organizations. She leads with the topic of vulnerability and the effect that has on the organization when it comes from the leader. I’m excited to get into the main parts of the book here in the next week or few weeks.
